| Abstract (English): | Professional identity is the way in which professionals define themselves in relation to their professional role, encompassing both their sense of identity and the expected behaviors associated with that role. The formation of this identity is a complex process that begins at the undergraduate level and continues throughout a pharmacist’s professional career. Several different professional identities have been identified in the world of pharmacy, which may indicate a degree of ambiguity in the role expected of this professional and a lack of clear direction and characterization of what makes the pharmacist “unique”, although it may also suggest a flexible and broad view of the pharmacist’s role. For the clinical role promoted by the various professional organizations at the international level to become a reality, and for the profession to be re-professionalized, students need to build a solid identity, and this work must begin at the undergraduate level. With the publication of the recent Delegated Directive (EU) 2024/782, a window of opportunity has opened for both the university and the profession to discuss where the profession should go and, more specifically, what the professional role of the pharmacist should be. | Abstract (Spanish): | Se denomina Identidad profesional a la forma en que los profesionales se definen a sí mismos en relación con su rol profesional, abarcando tanto su sentido de identidad como los comportamientos esperados asociados con ese rol. La formación de esta identidad consiste en un proceso complejo que comienza en los estudios de grado y se prolonga durante la actividad profesional del farmacéutico. En el mundo de la farmacia se han identificado varias identidades profesionales diferentes lo que puede dar idea de un cierto grado de ambigüedad en el rol que se espera de este profesional y de una falta de dirección clara y de la caracterización de aquello que hace “único” al farmacéutico, aunque también puede sugerir una visión flexible y amplia del rol de este profesional. Para que el rol asistencial que promueven las diferentes organizaciones profesionales a nivel internacional se convierta en una realidad, y la profesión se reprofesionalice, los estudiantes deben construir una identidad sólida para lo que se debe comenzar a trabajar desde los estudios de grado. Con la publicación de la reciente Directiva Delegada (UE) 2024/782 se abre una ventana de oportunidad para que tanto la Universidad como la Profesión dialoguen sobre hacia dónde debe caminar la profesión y más concretamente cuál debe ser el rol profesional del farmacéutico.
