Abstract (English): At present the existing environmental pollution also affect health, has also affected the surface degradation of the materials used in buildings. The old stone-built structures were locked in some urban areas with minimal or almost no industrial development. Today these buildings are located in highly urbanized and industrialized areas and the stone material, with which they were erected, is affected by chemical pollutants emitted by industries and the heavy road traffic. The Basilica Minor San Francisco de Asis and Convent seventeenth century and is located in Old Havana. This monument is located in urban-industrial-marine area and on the surface of the stone used in its construction, evidenced the formation of crusts and patinas as a result of pollution. Materials and Methods: In this paper we show the values of NO2 and sulphates monitored inside the building using passive sensors. On the other hand, was implemented and evaluated by Karsten Pipe, visual and microscopic observation an organic-based repellent to protect the stone surface. Results and Conclusions: The capacity of the products to decrease water access inside the stone was confirmed. Gypsum is the majority of the crust contaminant present in the stone surface.
