Abstract (English): Introduction: Traffic accidents constitute a serious problem of pubic health by its aftermath of dead, disabled and millionaire losses they produce in the country; making it important to educate the population. Objective: to evaluate a driver education program. Material and Methods: descriptive research, with a single experimental group with pre-and post-test. The sample was not intentional, probabilistic, made of students to apply a questionnaire in two moments, before and after receiving the educational program. Descriptive statistics and test of hypothesis for the difference between percentages was done, taking as level of statistical significance P values less than 0.05. Results: According to students answers the first cause of traffic accidents in Venezuela match former investigations. Signals and rules of road safety awareness increased after the educational program; 56% obey the traffic lights, 72% follow the signals; and the use of seat belt in 69.3%. Conclusions: The driver education program increased knowledge and best practices for accidents prevention in the studied population. For enduring traffic rules its necessary to address some other factors involved, such as social, economic, industrial conditions and those related to the health authorities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
