| Abstract: | The article presents a personal narrative which explores unconscious phantasies connected with swimming and water. The author introduces the article with a personal anecdote of nearly drowning as a young child and of the family myths about swimming. The author concludes with an illustration from the film of Michael Ondaatje's book "The English Patient" and her thoughts about how swimming and being in water evoke ideas of re-birth and self-realization and the parallels with psychotherapy. |
