| Abstract: | Disciplinary literacy is vital for developing essential academic skills such as reading, writing, and communication. Specialized strategies help students understand complex texts and unfamiliar vocabulary and express ideas clearly in writing. Poetry analysis is an effective approach to disciplinary literacy, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and deep comprehension. Analyzing poetry helps students master new vocabulary and apply discipline-specific terms in creative contexts. Poetry encourages critical thinking by requiring careful analysis of themes, structure, and word choice, which strengthens students' ability to interpret complex texts across various subjects. Exploring the American dream motif through the poem "The Hill We Climb" by Amanda Gorman offers an opportunity for students to engage in critical thinking and literacy skill development.
