| Abstract: | The article focuses on the implementation and impact of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, a three-digit mental health crisis number launched in 2022 to improve access to suicide prevention services. While the 988 Lifeline has increased overall call volume and responsiveness, significant ethnoracial disparities exist in awareness of the service, with non-Hispanic Black and Hispanic individuals being less aware despite expressing greater willingness to use it. These disparities risk exacerbating existing suicide risk inequalities unless targeted outreach and culturally tailored awareness campaigns are implemented. The article emphasizes the importance of addressing structural barriers and promoting equitable access to ensure the 988 Lifeline benefits marginalized communities and reduces reliance on emergency services like 911.
