Abstract: This article discusses the application of information and communications technologies in elementary literacy education. The article explains how electronic talking books (ETBs) can help children learn to read through included features such as narrations, feedback, and sound effects. The article defines ETBs, which are texts on CD-ROM, or published on the Internet. ETBs also include teaching elements like animations, music, and video applications. The rationale for using ETBs to encourage reluctant readers to read is presented.
