Abstract: Shows that the activation of protein kinase C induces cloned capsaicin or vanilloid receptor channel activity at room temperature in the absence of any other agonist. Observation of the same effect in native vanilloid receptors from sensory neurons, as well as induction of a vanilloid-sensitive Ca[sub2+] rise by phorbol esters; Finding that the peptide bradykinin and the ligand anandamide both induced and enhanced vanilloid receptor activity; Suggestion that protein kinase C may link a range of stimuli to the activation of vanilloid receptors.
