Abstract: The article discusses the U.S. economic policy of austerity from the late 2000s through the early 2010s. An overview of the U.S. federal government's budget deficit as a percentage of U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) is provided. Proponents of austerity policies' perspective on the U.S. public debt is discussed. The U.S. government's fiscal policies in response to the 2008 Global Financial Crisis are also discussed. An overview of the relationship between the U.S. government capitalistic economic policies and employment in the country is also discussed.
