| Abstract: |
This article explores the relationship between Meadow's statement and her adherence to drive theory. It considers why various non-drive theories were unacceptable to her and gives some examples of how drive theory is used in the work of Freud, Spotnitz, Winnicott, and Green as well as Meadow. Meadow's views are considered in relation to ego psychology, self psychology, intersubjectivity, and object relations. The importance of motivation in Meadow's theory and treatment is discussed.
