| Abstract: |
The article discusses research by the Centro Internacional de Estudios Superiores de Comunicación para América Latina (CIESPAL), an organization dedicated to the study and teaching of communication and journalism in Latin America. The author provides a history of CIESPAL research initiatives that investigated journalism and social communication in print media, radio, and television and the sociological effects in Latin America by comparing countries and also urban and rural settings. Finally, the author proposes guidelines for further research that take into account technological advances, promote greater social inclusion of marginalized peoples, and establish academic standards for evaluation. |
