| Summary: | The authors start by analyzing the concept of expressed emotion and the methods to evaluate it
within the family nucleous of schizoprenic patients, clarifying two of its basic components: excessive
emotional implication and critical attitude. Then they review several studies about the validity and
usefulness of this construct and others regarding conceptual and methodological questions. Finally
they speak about the implications and therapeutical developements, focusing on the social
interventions performed in Great Britain and in the behaviourist family therapy and presenting some
of its results. The work finishes by pointing out that the review of the studies on expressed emotion in
parents of schizophrenic patients highlights the convenience and usefulness of such measures and by
offering some guidelines for future investigations |
