Abstract (English): During lactation, the physiological mammary microbiotas characterized by the presence of a relatively heterogeneous population, dominated by certain Gram-positive bacteria, at a moderated concentration (<1,000 CFU/mL milk). However, there are circumstances that may lead to a disbiotic process of the mammary gland microbiota, leading to mastitis. This is a widely underrated condition, partly due to the absence of uniform protocols for the collection of this biological fluid, the lack of tradition in microbiological analysis of human milk, and the doubts that sometimes arise when the results interpretation is being done. In this article, we present a basic protocol for the collection of human milk samples for their microbiological analysis and simple guidelines in order to facilitate the interpretation of the results.
